Since 1994, the Phelophepa “Train of Hope” has provided preventative health, dental and eye care for South Africa’s most impoverished, rural provinces. Each year, more than 40,000 patients are treated on the train’s 37-week route.

The AFPT Mission

The American Friends of the Phelophepa train is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to provide American individuals, foundations and corporations with opportunities to contribute to the Phelophepa cause. The AFPT actively recruits volunteers and board members who are driven stakeholders in improving the wellbeing of rural South Africa. AFPT seeks to engage donors of all sizes through traditional and web-based media and events and pursues grants from American corporations and philanthropic foundations. The goal of the AFPT is provide consistent operational funding for the Phelophepa train through effective fundraising.
